Catholic Charities
|
As Faith and Community Partnerships Coordinator, I worked with volunteer management which includes recruitment, tracking hours, matching volunteers with agency service opportunities, conducting interviews and coordinating paperwork. I also designed and created marketing and promotional materials, monthly e-blasts, and other special event invites.
Another part of my responsibilities was to hold monthly ‘Lunch & Learns’ which are informational sessions about Catholic Charities and agency programs. Additionally, I coordinated agency events such as Rice Bowl, Kicks for Kids Shoe Program, Hunger Walk, and Community Comes Together for Christmas.
One of my most important duties was parish social ministry (PSM). PSM focuses on managing the relationships between Catholic Charities and Church parishes, as Catholic Charities is the social arm of the diocese and our parishes the body.
I was also a member of the Life & Justice Committee, which represents the Roman Catholic Diocese of Louisiana. The committee was formed of representatives, from each Louisiana diocese, who are in positions that handle social justice. The committee focused on pro-life issues and legislation, and serves a contributor to the LCCB (Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops).

Christ the King Catholic CenterSocial Media and Student Activity Assistant
Baton Rouge, Louisiana | 2012-2013 |
As the social media and student activity assistant at LSU's Christ the King Catholic Center, I was able to help the church with a variety of projects. I helped manage CTK's social media including Facebook and Twitter. I would live tweet during several of the weekly activities so students who were unable to attend could follow along with what was happening. Christ the King also holds two dances each year, which I co-head in planning. This included everything from decorating the entire space to designing the fliers. This position required me to work closely with CTK staff members and other student leaders. It also provided me with great experience in event planning.
Children's Museum of HoustonMultimedia Communication Specialist
Houston, TX | Summer (May-July 2013) |
As a public relations intern at the Children's Museum of Houston, I was assigned the title of Multimedia Communication Specialist. This internship really helped me expand my knowledge and skills of online technology.
I edited the museum's website in several ways: added calendar events, posted press releases to newsroom, revised pages’ content, created/updated photo albums. I also gathered sources via Google Analytics & Alerts to optimize traffic flow, and created and dispersed weekly e-blasts using Campaign Monitor. I worked closely with the Traveling Exhibit Manager to design five professional pages in a timely manner for exhibit rentals.I also collaborated with mommy bloggers to strike trade agreements, followed through with more than 30 development deliverables, updated sponsor logos on website and designed/assembled press kits for museum special events.
The entire summer was superhero themed and everything focused around the Summer of Epic Adventure. I was able to go to several television stations for morning promotions of the museum. I was also able to attend a "Come Pley with Yelp!" event held at the museum with those 21 and older.

I have always wanted to intern with the Houston Ballet, so in the summer of 2013 when I was extended the offer, I was thrilled to accept. Aside from being able to work with Houston's best ballet dancers, the internship also taught me how to balance press of a specific ballet, while managing public relation for an entire season.
As a public relations intern I packaged/assembled press kits and press seating charts and edited and delivered cast inserts for Playbills for opening night. I also clipped and organized Houston Ballet press mentions into the clippings binder. Houston Ballet keeps records of all mentions to evaluate the amount of press a certain ballet received and to have materials for press kits the next time the company performs a ballet. Mentions were also important for the dancers; I assembled and gathered reviews/mentions for the dancers’ press board because they enjoy reading about the ballets.
It is never too early to start working on the upcoming season. I helped prepare for the next season by gathering photos for Houston Ballet's artistic director's, Stanton Welch, approval. The photos need his approval for media use.
I also worked on several other projects for the ballet. I had the opportunity to supervise two photo-shoots: one for dancer head-shots for Playbills and dancer biographies and the other for a principal dancer's magazine feature on her upcoming retirement. I also compiled a 10 page synopsis booklet for the 2014 season’s ballets, compared Houston Ballet with the top six ballet companies on magazine coverage/mentions and created a file of dancer quotes based on ballets to use for press releases.

The internship with ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was my first public relations internship. St. Jude holds a special place in my heart because at the age of 5, my young brother was diagnosed with cancer and treated at St. Jude. I knew since St. Jude saved my brother's life, I owed them mine in service. So, when I learned the St. Jude's fundraising department (ALSAC) offered public relations internships, I had to apply.
I could not have worked with a better group of women. The quickly become my mentors and summer family. Through my internship I acquired skills and knowledge in event coordination and planning and corresponded with patient families and maintained relationship with sponsors and donors. I also improved writing skills and communication through phone calls, emails and letter writing. I helped design and package media kits and managed budget for projects. Most importantly, I was educated on St. Jude’s fundraising events such as radiothons, galas, walks and rides - the major fundraisers for the hospital.
